Headteacher’s Welcome
Here at Crosscanonby St John’s Church of England Primary School, we welcome all children and families. Relationships between all groups are at the heart of the school. This creates an inclusive environment where everyone is recognised and accepted for who they are. The children at our school are happy, confident, fun loving and energetic. They are passionate about their learning, whether in the classroom or out of doors. Our experienced staff provide a carefully planned, broad and balanced curriculum, which has high aspirations for all children, with adaptations made to ensure all our pupils are supported so that they can access this fully. We have a seamless approach throughout all areas of school life that fosters inclusion and acceptance.
Our children receive an excellent start in our Early Years class resulting in them transitioning successfully into Key Stage 1, then Key Stage 2.
We teach our children to always try to be the best they can be. We are a school that is big enough to present all of the opportunities your child will need but also small enough to care for everybody’s individual needs. Our children are at the heart of our school and our small class sizes mean that we can really get the best from them.
The vision for our school is lived out through Christian values, in particular love and kindness. Our children know they are nurtured and encouraged to ‘do good, [and] love and value one another’.
At Crosscanonby St John’s CE Primary each member of staff has a love of teaching. They develop and inspire the children to enable them to reach their full academic potential. It is our goal to teach them in a way in which they are fully engaged and excited by their education - all of the time. We strive to enrich the children’s learning with trips and experiences, resulting in their viewpoint being widened. We offer a well-planned and accessible extra-curricular programme which further expands their experiences - consequently, nurturing individual talents and interests. We are determined that our curriculum develops not just the academic but the whole child. Sensory spaces, interventions and well-matched resourcing enables all children to achieve their best.
We have an inter-connected and mutually beneficial relationship with the wider community and local church - this creates a sense of belonging that is valued and cherished. We are proud of our links with St John’s Church in Crosscanonby and value the links we have with the local community. We embrace our lovely village and our families but also feel part of our larger education group (ASSP- Aspatria Small Schools Partnership). We are a small village school which allows us to really get to know each and every one of our children. In turn, they feel a strong sense of belonging.
Our children are enthusiastic to support others and to work with a range of organisations. As a result, they have a sense of purpose and are learning to be proactive citizens of the future, developing a sense of social justice and how they can be agents of change.
Please feel free to call in and visit us. You will be able to see our school in action, see the children settled, happy and working hard in our beautiful surroundings.
