Our Weekly Blog!

It has been another busy and exciting week in Class 2!
In English, we began learning about persuasive techniques. The children explored how writers try to convince people using exciting words, strong opinions and catchy phrases. We will soon be using these skills to create our own advertisements for a delicious Wonka chocolate bar, so the class enjoyed thinking about how to make their adverts sound as tempting as possible!
In Maths, we have been focusing on perimeter. The children have been calculating the perimeter of regular and rectilinear shapes and have also been working out missing side lengths. I have been really impressed with how well children have understood this topic!
In PSHE, we discussed the feeling of disappointment and talked about how everyone experiences it sometimes. The children shared thoughtful ideas about how we can overcome disappointment and stay positive when things do not go our way.
In RE, we learned about Passover and why it is an important celebration for Jewish people. The class discovered how the Seder plate is used during the Passover meal and how each food represents an important part of the story that Jewish families remember.
In Geography, we explored volcanoes and how they are formed. We learned how destructive plate boundaries can cause volcanoes to erupt and produce lava. The children were fascinated by how powerful and dramatic these natural events can be.
In Science, we looked again at the requirements plants need to survive and thrive. We recapped our previous learning and built on it to help us prepare for our investigation next week.
In Music, we experimented with pitch using microphones. The children enjoyed hearing how their voices could change and exploring how sound can be higher or lower.
In PE, we played a variety of ball games, including dodgeball and basketball. The children showed great teamwork and enthusiasm throughout the afternoon.
On Friday afternoon, we took part in a special STEAM session all about dream jobs. This session really got some of the children thinking about their future aspirations and the many exciting possibilities ahead of them.
Well done everyone for another fantastic week of learning!

It has been another busy and exciting week in Class 2!
In English, we began work on our new class book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. We wrote detailed character descriptions, thinking carefully about how the characters look and behave. We also discovered that Roald Dahl loved to invent his own funny and imaginative words! Inspired by this, we had fun creating some of our own made-up words.
In Maths, we continued our learning about length. The children have been working very hard to understand some tricky conversions and have been applying their knowledge to solve two-step problem-solving questions.
In French, we used the vocabulary we have learnt so far to write our own versions of the story of The Hungry Caterpillar in French. The children did a fantastic job remembering their French words and building simple sentences.
In RE, we retold the Easter story and thought carefully about the emotions of the different people involved during Holy Week. This helped us to understand the story from different perspectives.
In PSHE, we learnt about broken dreams and discussed how sometimes things do not go the way we hope at first. We talked about the importance of resilience and how we can keep trying and stay positive when things are difficult.
In Geography, we started our exciting new topic on volcanoes. This week we began by learning about the layers of the Earth and what is happening beneath the ground.
In Design and Technology, we started our new food tech topic. Over the coming weeks we will be designing and making our own sandwiches, and we began by thinking about food hygiene and safety.
On Thursday, we celebrated World Book Day! The children loved sharing their favourite books and seeing everyone’s wonderful costumes. We also took part in a whole-school art project inspired by the story The Snail and the Whale. In Music, we had lots of fun writing songs based on the characters we dressed up as.
Finally, in PE, we worked with Andy to practice our basketball skills, focusing on dribbling and passing.
Well done Class 2 for another busy week of learning!

This week in English, we have been writing and editing our own fictional story pieces. I have been so impressed with the children’s vivid imaginations and their wonderful use of figurative language.
In Maths, we completed our end of unit tests and the children achieved some amazing scores – well done! We have now begun our new topic on length and perimeter. The children have made a strong start, carefully measuring objects and beginning to understand how to convert different units of measure accurately.
In French, the children enjoyed reading The Hungry Caterpillar. They are now rewriting parts of the story using their French vocabulary, including words for foods and colours. It has been wonderful to hear them confidently using their new language skills.
In RE, we learned about the Ten Commandments and discussed the reasons behind them. The children understood that Christians believe God gave these commandments because He wants people to be close to Him and to live good lives.
During PSHE, we had thoughtful discussions about hopes and dreams. The children shared their aspirations and talked about the steps they need to take to achieve them, including working hard, showing perseverance, and believing in themselves.
We finished our topic on Ancient Greece in History by exploring the wealth of knowledge the Ancient Greeks have given us. The children were fascinated to learn how Greek ideas still influence our lives today, from mathematics to medicine and the Olympics.
In Art, we experimented with printing techniques to create unique patterned pieces. The children loved seeing how repeating shapes and colours could form different designs.
In Science, we investigated friction. The children tested how objects moved across smooth and rough surfaces and observed how friction affects movement. They carried out their investigations carefully and made thoughtful observations.
A real highlight this week has been the children’s scores on their spelling and maths end of unit tests. It is clear that they are working very hard and really understand the learning we are covering – well done Class 2!
