Our Weekly Blog!

W/C 2nd February 2026

We’ve had another busy week in Class 2…

In English, we have been learning about the features of non-chronological reports. Using our class book about refugees as inspiration, the children planned and wrote their own reports. They showed sensitivity and a strong understanding of the topic, as well as carefully including headings, factual language and clear organisation in their writing.

In Maths, the children have been working incredibly hard and are now confidently using long division. Some have begun solving reasoning and problem-solving questions using this new method – a brilliant achievement that shows just how much progress they’ve made.

Our Science lessons focused on balanced forces. The children worked with partners to test their ideas and explore how forces can cancel each other out. There was lots of thoughtful discussion, teamwork and excitement as they investigated this tricky concept.

In History, we learnt about Ancient Greek buildings. The children explored different structures and discussed how Ancient Greek architecture still influences buildings we see today. They were fascinated to spot familiar features and make links to the modern world.

Music was full of creativity this week. Using guitars, drums, xylophones and small percussion instruments, the children worked together to recreate animal sounds. They then performed their pieces to the class, with some children even taking on the role of conductor – a wonderful display of leadership and musical skill.

In RE, we continued our learning about how Christians look after the world, reflecting on the belief that God is the Creator. The children shared thoughtful ideas about caring for the environment and being responsible global citizens.

During PSHE, we discussed bullying and explored how words and actions can have a powerful impact on how people feel. The children showed great empathy and understanding, contributing mature ideas to our discussions.

Finally, in PE the children perfected their dances in preparation for our Dance Festival at Caldbeck Parish Hall. Their performance was fantastic, and they supported one another brilliantly throughout. We were incredibly proud of their confidence and positive attitudes.

Well done, Class 2 – you have worked so hard this week!

What a busy and brilliant week it has been in Class 2! We have covered so much learning across the curriculum, and I have been incredibly impressed with the children’s enthusiasm and work ethic.

In English, the children completed their Big Writes, producing first-person diary entries. They worked hard to include adverbs, fronted adverbials and conjunctions, and the results were fantastic. I was so impressed by the structure, creativity and overall composition of their writing – a real step forward for many children.

In Maths, we mastered written column multiplication. The Year 3 children did an amazing job taking on this new learning, showing confidence, focus and determination. It has been wonderful to see their mathematical understanding grow.

Our Science lessons were full of excitement as we learned about what forces do. The children investigated how direction and speed can change by experimenting with paper aeroplanes – lots of curiosity, predictions and great scientific thinking on display!

In History, we explored who was in charge in Ancient Greece and learned more about democratic and autocratic governments. The children asked thoughtful questions and made excellent connections to what leadership looks like in the UK today.

During PSHE, we focused on understanding the influences on our opinions of other people. The children shared ideas respectfully and showed maturity and empathy during discussions.

In PE, we have been working hard in preparation for our upcoming dance show. Some children even rehearsing their own solos – such confidence and creativity! In our second PE session, we found our inner calm with yoga, which continues to be one of our class favourites.

In Music, the children composed their own songs using instruments to re-enact animals. There was fantastic teamwork and imagination as they explored different sounds and rhythms.

Finally, in Art, we learned how symmetry, rotation and reflection can be used to create aesthetic patterns. The children produced some beautiful and thoughtful designs.

Well done, Class 2 – you should all be very proud of yourselves. Keep up the amazing effort!

We’ve covered a lot of learning this week in Class 2…

In English, we have been writing diary entries inspired by our class book My Name Is Not Refugee. The children did a fantastic job exploring feelings and events through diary writing, while carefully using conjunctions, adverbs and fronted adverbials to make their writing more detailed and interesting. It has been lovely to see their confidence growing as writers.

In Maths, we have been challenging ourselves by multiplying 2-digit numbers. The children showed great perseverance and resilience, especially when tackling trickier problems.

In Music, we enjoyed some interpretive movement to different songs. The children listened carefully to the music and used their bodies to express their creativity.

This linked perfectly with PE, where we continued our work on dance and storytelling through movement. The children worked together brilliantly and were very impressive in how they used their bodies to communicate ideas and emotions.

In RE, we learned about how God cares for the creation of our world. We also discussed the man-made world, sharing ideas about things humans have created that we find particularly impressive, which led to some thoughtful conversations.

In History, we began our new topic on the Ancient Greeks. We learned about Greek city-states, including Athens, and the children were excited to explore what life might have been like in the past.

In Science, we started our new topic on forces, focusing on pushes and pulls. The children loved testing these forces themselves using a range of different objects and making observations about what happened.

Well done, Class 2, for another super week of learning.

W/C 12th January 2026

What a busy week we’ve had in Class 2! The children have worked incredibly hard across all subjects.

In English, we have been learning all about the features of a diary entry in preparation for writing our own next week. The children explored why diary entries are written in the first person and practiced using past tense verbs to describe events clearly. They enjoyed stepping into the role of the main character and thinking about how to express thoughts and feelings.

In Maths, we began our second unit on multiplication and division. The children have been learning about factor pairs and how to reason using mathematical symbols. It was wonderful to see them using their prior knowledge so confidently and explaining their thinking.

In Geography, we finished our topic on biomes. The children visited different stations around the classroom and collected interesting facts about the tundra, desert, grassland and marine biomes. They showed great curiosity and enthusiasm while learning about the diverse environments of our world.

In PE, the children continued their dance sessions with Andy. They focused on how to express themselves through movement, using their bodies creatively and confidently.

In French, the children learned some of the main colours and practiced using them in sentences, both orally and in writing. They did a fantastic job trying out new vocabulary and pronunciation.

In Art, we began our new topic on investigating patterns. The children looked at work by famous artists and took inspiration from these to create their own patterned designs. Their interpretations of abstract art were particularly impressive!

Finally, in RE, we started our new topic on Creation and the Bible story. The children learned about the seven days of creation and enjoyed choosing and discussing their favourite part of creation in our world.

Well done Class 2 for another brilliant week of learning!

W/C 5th January 2026

Welcome back to a brand new term in Class 2! Although we’ve only been back in school since Wednesday, it’s been a busy and exciting few days full of learning and creativity.

In English, we began our new writing unit based on the powerful book My Name is Not Refugee. The children started by predicting what they thought the story might be about before reading it together. We then had thoughtful discussions about what life as a refugee might be like. The children did a fantastic job of putting themselves in the main character’s shoes and considering what items they would take if they had to suddenly leave their home. There were some really interesting, sensitive and mature ideas shared.

In Maths, we finished our first topic on multiplication and division. The children completed an end-of-unit check to test their knowledge and have shown lots of understanding and confidence with the skills they have been learning. Well done, Class 2!

In Geography, we explored the layers of a tropical rainforest and learned about the animals and plants that live in each layer. The children carried out their own research using the iPads and made some fascinating discoveries, which they were very keen to share with the class.

In Music, the children enjoyed learning some new songs and had the opportunity to play instruments to accompany one another. They practised following musical notes and worked together to keep in time, showing great listening skills and teamwork.

Finally, in PE the children worked with Andy to create some beautiful and moving dance routines. Their creativity, teamwork and expression were wonderful to see.

It’s been a great start to the term, and we’re really looking forward to all the learning ahead. Well done, Class 2!
