Our Weekly Blog!

We've had another busy and exciting week in Class 2!

In English, children began planning their own stories inspired by our current book 'Stone Age Boy'. They chose their own different historical periods to research and plan using iPads and books, including the Victorians, Vikings, Romans and World War II. We can't wait to see their imaginative ideas come to life!

In Maths, we started our new topic on addition and subtraction. The children showed strong prior knowledge and have made a confident start to their learning.

In PSHE, we explored the importance of a school community and discussed the different roles people play to help our school run smoothly.

In PE, the children enjoyed three hours of sport and physical activity this week - lots of energy and teamwork!

In Science, we began our new topic on classification. To bring this to life, we went on a wildlife investigation around the school grounds and made some interesting discoveries.

In Art, children sketched pictures inspired by our current artist L.S. Lowry, focusing on detail and capturing his unique style.

The highlight of this week was our trip to the Harvest Experience in Aspatria. The children immersed themselves in different interactive stations, asked brilliant questions, and listened carefully as they learned about the importance of harvest. It was a fantastic opportunity and a wonderful way to celebrate the season.

Well done, everyone, for a super week of learning!

It's been another busy week of learning in Class 2!

In Maths, we have been finishing up our place value topic by rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000. The children have worked hard to spot patterns and use their knowledge to explain their reasoning.

In English, we have been improving our descriptive writing by using expanded noun phrases and different types of clauses. The children have experimented with new ways to make their sentences more exciting and detailed.

In history, we looked more closely at the Paleolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic Stone Age periods. The children found some brilliant facts and showed real curiosity about how people lived thousands of years ago.

In art, we perfected our colour wheels. Using only primary colours, along with black and white, the children learned how to create a full range of tones and shades. In the following weeks, they will use this skill when recreating pieces by L.S. Lowry.

One of the things I am most proud of this week is the children's handwriting. Many are taking real care with their presentation, and some children are even beginning to join up in their own writing, which is an impressive step forward. Well done Class 2!

What a fantastic week we've had in Class 2! We've had lots of opportunities for creative thinking and some brilliant teamwork, and it's been so lovely to see the children starting to work together as a new class.

In English, we've stepped into the shoes of different characters when writing diary entries based on our book 'Stone Age Boy'. The children have written some really thoughtful and imaginative pieces.

In our History topic of the Stone Age, we explored the different jobs people had and the tools and objects they used in their daily life. Children were full of questions and curiosity!

In Science, we experimented with sweets to model the rock cycle. The children used layering, pressure and even heat to see how rocks can form over time.

In Maths, we've been stretching our brains with some trickier place value challenges. The class have shown perseverance working through the problems step-by-step.

What's stood out most this week is everyone's work ethic - it's been great to see everybody having a go, try new things and support each other. Well done Class 2!

W/C 8th September 2025

What a brilliant start to the new term we’ve had! Our first full week back has been packed with exciting learning across all subjects, and I couldn’t be prouder of the way every single child in Class 2 has embraced new challenges and had a go – even when things felt tricky or unfamiliar.

In English, we began exploring diary writing, using the book Stone Age Boy as our inspiration. The children have really started to think about how to write from a character’s perspective, imagining what it would be like to suddenly find yourself in a very different time period!

This links closely with our new History topic, where we’ve started learning all about the Stone Age. We’ve looked at how people lived during this time and begun building our understanding of how life has changed over thousands of years.

In Maths, we’ve been continuing to perfect our place value skills, working with increasingly large numbers and developing our confidence with reading, writing, and understanding them.

Our Science lessons have taken us underground as we’ve been investigating soil! The children explored what soil is made of and why it’s so important for life on Earth.

In French, we’ve been learning some interesting facts about France and picking up some new vocabulary along the way. It’s been lovely to see the children so engaged and curious about another culture.

In Music this week, we learned how to write musical notes and even had a go at creating our own songs using GarageBand. There were some very creative tunes being shared!

It’s been a fantastic week of learning, and once again, we are incredibly proud everyone in Class 2. Every child has made us smile with their attitude and effort!

W/C 1st September 2025

What a fantastic start we've had to the new school year! The children have settled in brilliantly to new teachers and new routines and have already been diving into some new exciting learning.

We first began our new Maths unit on place value. To help us really see how numbers are built, we used Base-10 to represent and compare numbers, and the children are slowly becoming more confident explaining their mathematical thinking.

In Science, we've been exploring fossils - how they form, what they can tell us about the past and why they're so important to scientists. The children asked brilliant questions and loved looking at examples to spark their curiosity.

In Art, our classroom became a mini gallery to study the work of L.S. Lowry. The children carefully analysed his paintings and his unique style.

We have also been putting lots of effort into our handwriting. Everyone has been working hard on presentation and taking pride in their written work - something that will set us up for success across all subjects this year!

A busy and productive first week back - well done Class 2!
