Our Weekly Blog!

week commencing 7.10.24

This week we began a new text in English: Mrs Noah's Pockets, a story based on Noah's Ark. The children have been working on their retrieval and inference comprehension skills and have written similes to describe the weather.

In maths we have begun to use the column method for addition and have been practising our individual target times tables (The children all know which times table they are learning and enjoy singing and dancing to 'BBC supermovers' as well as lots of online games, do join in with them at home!)

Our RE topic this half term has been about God's messengers. The class were very inquisitive as we learnt about the life of Harriet Tubman.

The week ended with experimenting with different components in electric circuits. It was lovely to hear all the scientific language that the children were using.

Finally, can I thank you for the effort you are putting in to help your child learn their spellings, there were so many children who got all the spellings correct today, it was fantastic!

Week Commencing 30/9/24

This week has been another busy week and it is lovely to see al the children working so hard. We’ve had two visitors in school this week. We’ve had a visit from Timmy the tin of tuna to talk about the foodbank. We also had a visit from Primary puppets who did a lovely performance teaching the children all about kindness.

English: Continuing on with our story ‘Jim and the Beanstalk’, the children have became young authors. Planning, writing and editing their own version of the story. They have had so much fun creating different problems for their giant and finding a solution to there problem.

Maths: This week the children have looked at and learnt about Roman Numerals and being able to add Roman numerals.  They have also started their next unit which is adding and subtracting numbers that require ‘carrying’. They have looked at adding number where it effects the number in the next column.

French: This week the children were introduced to pets and how you would tell someone what kind of pet they have.

Science: The children have been focusing this week on debating the use of fossil fuels, learning all about renewable and non renewable energy sources and which ones are better for the environment.

Music: The children have started learning the songs to sing in their Harvest Assembly as well as playing instruments along side the song learning the notes.

This week has been a busy week and we are really proud of the children’s attitude to learning. Please continue to read with them at home. The children will need there PE kit on Monday and Wednesday until half term.
