Our Weekly Blog!

It’s been another busy week for Class 2…

This week has been our summer assessment week, and I couldn't be prouder of how hard every single child has worked. The children have shown fantastic determination, resilience and positive attitudes each morning, giving every assessment their very best effort. It has been wonderful to see how much progress they have made since September, and they should all be incredibly proud of themselves.

Every afternoon, we swapped the classroom for the swimming pool! The children have shown excellent perseverance, with many developing their confidence in the water and improving their swimming skills. A huge well done goes to those children who have even swan for the first time this week - what an incredible achievement! It has been lovely to watch their confidence grow day by day.

On Thursday morning, the children also enjoyed a fantastic music lesson with Mr Clarke, where they worked together to create their own World Cup-themed song. Using xylophones, drums and guitars, they experimented with rhythm and creativity to produce some brilliant compositions.

It has also been quite an emotional week, as I shared with the children that I will be leaving at the end of term. They have been an absolute pleasure to teach, and I am so grateful for all of the memories we have made together this year. We still have two weeks left together, and I know they will be filled with lots of smiles, laughter and special moments. Let's make these last couple of weeks count!

What a fantastic week we have had in Class 2! Despite the warm weather, the children have continued to work incredibly hard.

In English, we have planned and begun writing our own creature reports based on The Tear Thief. The children have been using all of the writing skills we have practised over the past few weeks, including subheadings, fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases and generalisers.

In Maths, we completed our unit on time. The children have worked so hard on what has been one of our trickiest topics this year, and there are certainly far fewer children asking me what the time is now—they can read the clocks for themselves!

Our Science lesson focused on balanced diets, where we learnt about the different food groups and why each is important for keeping our bodies healthy. The children then designed their own balanced meals.

In Geography, we continued learning about earthquakes by exploring the story of Heiki and considering the social and economic impacts that earthquakes can have on people's lives and communities.

On Wednesday afternoon, we enjoyed our Sports Day. The children showed fantastic sportsmanship throughout the afternoon and it was lovely to see everyone encouraging one another and celebrating each other's successes.

In Music, we continued developing our instrumental skills, practising how to play together as an ensemble. The children worked hard on keeping a steady beat and following rhythms carefully.

Our RE lesson challenged us to think more deeply about the meanings behind some more complex proverbs. The children impressed us with their thoughtful discussions before creating proverbs of their own - some of their ideas with were incredibly mature.

In PSHE, we explored the feeling of jealousy and discussed healthy ways to respond when we experience it. The children reflected sensitively on different scenarios and shared some excellent ideas about managing emotions positively.

In D&T, we put our measuring and construction skills to the test by making our own picture frames. The children measured carefully, followed instructions brilliantly and were very proud of their finished products.

Well done for a brilliant week, Class 2.

What a fantastic and busy week we have had in Class 2!

In English, we continued developing our report writing skills by learning how to use fronted adverbials and generalisers to make our report writing more organised and informative.

In Maths, we finished our topic on fractions. The children challenged themselves with a range of tricky reasoning and problem-solving questions, applying everything they have learned throughout the unit. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they explained their mathematical thinking.

In RE, we began our new topic on proverbs. We explored the story of Solomon choosing wisdom from God and discussed why wisdom is such an important quality. The children enjoyed sharing their own ideas about what it means to be wise and how wisdom can help us make good choices.

In Geography, we started our exciting new topic on Earthquakes. We learned about the focus and epicentre of an earthquake and what happens beneath the Earth’s surface when an earthquake occurs.

On Monday morning, we welcomed visitors from Cumbria Wildlife Trust for the first of three sessions. Together, we began creating a special class storybook based on our own imaginative sea creature designs. The children loved bringing their ideas to life and showed fantastic creativity throughout the session.

Wednesday also marked the start of an exciting adventure for many of our children as they set off to Robin Wood for their residential visit. Over the course of the trip, the children demonstrated outstanding cooperation, respect and resilience while taking part in a wide range of challenging activities. It was wonderful to see them encouraging one another, stepping outside of their comfort zones and showing such determination. We had an amazing few days filled with fun, laughter and unforgettable memories. I am incredibly proud of every child for the way they pushed themselves and represented our school so brilliantly.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Class 2 have been working hard this first week back…

In English, we have been exploring the features of report writing and beginning to put these into practice in preparation for writing our own reports about a mysterious creature from The Tear Thief. We have identified key features such as subheadings, factual language and present tense.

In Maths, we have worked incredibly hard on fractions. We have been developing our understanding of adding, subtracting and multiplying whole numbers, mixed numbers and improper fractions.

In Science, we carried out an investigation to discover whether different materials affect magnetism. We made predictions, tested a range of materials and carefully recorded our results before discussing what we found out.

In History, we learned about the role of the Pharaoh in Ancient Egypt and explored why Pharaohs were considered so powerful. Next week, we are excited to begin our new Geography topic all about earthquakes.

In RE, we learned about Hindu mandirs and explored why they are special places of worship. We designed our own colourful, flower-filled mandirs and compared them to Christian churches.

In DT, we started our new topic on how things are made. We investigated shell structures and used our knowledge to create our own chocolate boxes.

In PSHE, we discussed what makes a healthy friendship. We thought carefully about personal boundaries, why they are important and how we can respect other people's boundaries while communicating our own respectfully.

In PE, we enjoyed practising for Sports Day with Andy. We took part in lots of exciting team games, developing our teamwork, communication and sporting skills while having plenty of fun.

In Music, we explored beat and tempo. We listened carefully to different pieces of music, identified whether they were fast or slow, and practised keeping a steady beat using percussion.

Well done Class 2 for working hard this week.
