Physical Education

At Crosscanonby St John's School we aim to provide a high quality physical education curriculum, which seeks to inspire our children to take part and succeed in a wide range of physical activities across the key stages. We will ensure that our children will take part in the widest range of activities and so develop the skills and competences that will enable them to engage in competitive sport and activities, lead healthy and active lives and derive enjoyment from working and competing with other children.

What do we do?

Competitions

We take every opportunity to take part in competitions within school and against other schools. We don't always win but we encourage all our children to take part and have a go!

Examples of sports we take part in....

  • Swimming Gala
  • Tennis
  • Football
  • Cricket
  • Multiskills
  • Dodgeball
  • Netball

We hold an annual Sport Day where every child competes at an appropriate level.

All pupils in Class 3 go swimming for a block of sessions. All costs are met by school.

At the pool they are taught by fully qualified swimming instructor; all pupils are included and transport is provided there and back.

Every year, children in Key Stage Two are given the opportunity to go on a "residential" course to places like Robinwood, where they are encouraged to develop team building skills and to challenge themselves. Here they are challenged as an individual or as a part of a team to push themselves as far as they feel able to go.

Some quotes from the pupils....

"I never thought I'd do the things I did". Y6 pupil

"I was frightened at first but once I had done it I felt great". Y4 pupil

We have a "rolling" programme of after school activities and clubs.

We have good links to local sports clubs, working with..
