Help Shape Our School's Future: Apply for Parent Governor
3 October 2025
A vacancy has arisen for a Parent Governor on our school's Governing Body. This is an excellent opportunity to become directly involved in the strategic leadership and development of Crosscanonby St John’s CE School.
The Governing Body plays a crucial role in the life of the school. The main responsibilities are:
• Setting the school’s strategic direction, vision, and ethos.
• Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff.
• Overseeing the financial performance of the school and ensuring money is well spent.
Parent Governors act as a vital link between the governing body and the wider parent community, offering a key perspective on the school's work.
What is the commitment?
Governors serve for a four-year term of office. Being a governor is a commitment, but it is also very rewarding. It involves:
• Attending Full Governing Body meetings, which are held approximately 5 times a year (mostly 1 per half term). These meetings usually take place on Mondays at 5pm.
• Possibly sitting on one or two sub-committees (e.g., Finance, Curriculum, etc.), which also meet throughout the year – usually prior to the full Governing Body meeting.
• Undertaking training to develop your skills and understanding of the role.
• Visiting the school occasionally to monitor specific areas of the School Improvement Plan.
We are looking for people who are enthusiastic, willing to learn, and committed to improving our school.
