Our Weekly Update from Mrs Bowe...
4 July 2025
It has been an exciting morning in school for the children as they experienced their new classes for the first time. It was a pleasure to welcome Miss Martin and Miss Moore to our school community. In their new classes, the children all of a sudden seemed that little bit more grown up!
Our Year 6 pupils spent time at their prospective secondary schools this week, experiencing what life will be like when they move up in September. We've heard so much positive feedback from the children! They seem to have particularly enjoyed experiencing a taste of secondary school subjects. Having this invaluable opportunity to navigate the bigger school environment, find their way around the classrooms, and explore the canteen has helped calm some worries about getting lost. The secondary schools did a brilliant job of encouraging our pupils to mix with children from other primary schools and even meet some of their future Year 7 classmates.
Class 2 had a great time this week experiencing the magic of a wind orchestra! They not only enjoyed listening to the sounds of the instruments but also got a hands-on opportunity to play some of them themselves. This interactive experience sparked lots of excitement and laughter, making for a memorable and inspiring day for our young musicians.
I would like to say a big thank you to Rhys, our work experience student, who has spent the last week with us. As a former Crosscanonby pupil, it was lovely to have him back at school. He made a fantastic impression on everyone, especially the children, who really enjoyed working and playing football with him!
We've got a fantastic day planned for all the children next Wednesday, designed to celebrate the start of the summer holidays with a bang. They can look forward to: bouncy castleswhere they can bounce, jump, and laugh; a variety of exciting activities and games to keep everyone entertained and the chance to transform into their favourite animal, superhero, or anything they can imagine with face painting and glitter tattoos.
On Friday we will be welcoming Nat into school, who will provide a unique and inspiring opportunity for children to experience wheelchair basketball. They will be trying something new and exciting whilst gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation for adaptive sports and inclusivity, highlighting the importance of sport for everyone.
For both of these events next week, children can wear their own choice of PE kit if they wish.
