Good afternoon,

We have a busy week we have to look forward to next week!

Those children in Class 2 who missed swimming due to being on the residential, and ALL the children in Class 3, will have swimming sessions at Cockermouth Leisure Centre – with the exception of Wednesday 25th June as it is Sports Day. Their sessions are from 1-2pm and the children will travel by coach, leaving school at 12:30pm.

On Tuesday 24th June, the children in Class 3 are visiting Bothel Village Hall to attend one of our STEAM cluster events – a letter has been sent separately. The session will be led by William Hare who is a leading structural steel engineering group based in Manchester. The members of their team will talk to the children about their business, job and then go on to a fun STEAM activity. They will be bringing along some kits of Mola Structural System for the children to design and build some structures in small groups. This Discovery Day will be an important celebration of STEAM subjects, comprising of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths. These subjects are a vital part of the curriculum and help to promote critical thinking, creativity, decision making and teamwork.

Sports Day is on Wednesday, starting at 1:15pm – everyone is welcome to come and support. I keep checking the weather forecast… I’m keeping everything crossed. If Andy our Sports Coach deems the ground to be unsafe to hold the races on, I will let you know at the earliest opportunity on Wednesday. Children will be given bibs to wear to show their team colour so need only come in in their normal PE kit. To raise funds, the school council will be selling cartons of juice and bottles of water to parents and children if they want them – 50p for a carton, £1 for a bottle of water. Our ‘Nameless Dino’ will also be out on the school field in a last bid for someone to guess his name… One lucky winner will soon be the proud owner of a giant green dinosaur????

On Friday our Year 5 children are visiting Netherhall School for a transition day – a letter has been sent separately. They will enjoy some fun secondary school lessons, including PE. These days proactively help the children have a smoother, calmer, and more successful move to secondary school when it comes around. They make children feel more familiar and in control, helping them become more resilient and ready for their next step in education.

On Friday we are also supporting our local foodbank by hosting a ‘Green Day’. The children can wear non-uniform (it doesn’t have to be green) in exchange for a donation to our local foodbank – see the school website for appropriate items. The main goal of a 'Foodbank Green Day' is to get more food donated and to spread the word about why food banks are so important. It's a fun way to get the children involved, teach them about food poverty, and make sure our food banks have enough supplies for those who need them. Your support with this is greatly appreciated!

With the warmer weather and sunnier days here, please remember the importance of applying sunscreen to your child before school. Even on cloudy days, UV rays can be strong - sunscreen helps protect their skin. Please ensure your child comes to school with sunscreen already applied. Thank you!
