Welcome back to the final half term of our academic year! I am keeping everything crossed that ‘summer’ has not been and gone and that warmth and sunshine will return…

It has been a busy week in school, getting back into our routines and making sure all our plans for the next 6 weeks are diarised and sorted.

Children in Classes 2 and 3 thoroughly enjoyed their ‘War and Peace in West Cumberland’ workshop with Becks Skinner. They were given the opportunity to calculate rations, make rag rugs, experience what it felt like when the gas alarm was sounded and much more. What made it even more special was that the resources and knowledge Becks shared with them was specifically linked to our local area. A fantastic morning!

On Monday, 13 children from years 4/5/6 are going to London! They have a jam-packed three days ahead of them – the London Eye, the Science Museum, The Lion King, a Thames cruise, Harry Potter studios to name only some of the brilliant things they’ll be experiencing. Miss Baxter and I will be accompanying the children – we are as excited as they are!

Those children in Classes 2 and 3 not going to London will be working with Mr Corkill and Mrs Jenkins, who have some bespoke, fun activities planned for the mornings and swimming in the afternoons.

Your child has brought their class photo home with them this week. If you would like to order one, please follow the instructions on the back of the sheet sent.

After-school clubs begin next week, with the introduction of two new clubs: ‘Around the World Club’ and ‘STEM Club’. ‘Around the World Club’ is a geography-themed club that will enrich the children's learning and foster global citizenship whilst allowing them to experience diverse cultures, languages, traditions, and geography in a fun, hands-on way. ‘STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Club’ will ignite their curiosity and develop their critical thinking skills. We look forward to sharing these new experiences with the children.

Next week, children in Year 1 will be completing their Phonics Screening Check, and children in Year 4 will be completing their Multiplication Tables Check. There are no fixed times for these, they will be completed at the class teachers’ discretion throughout the week. If your child is in either of these groups, please have practice with your child at home to help build their confidence.

You may have noticed the cuddliest green dinosaur in our main entrance this week… Our School Council are holding a ‘guess his name’ competition to help raise money for their treat day. If you would like to support them in being independent, please pop in and choose a name - £1 per go!
