Our Weekly Update from Mrs Bowe...
25 April 2025
It has been lovely to see both the children and yourselves this week, following the Easter break. The sun is shining, the flowers bringing an air of positivity as we begin the last term of the academic year.
There was great excitement from the moment the doors opened – our eggs and incubator arrived on Tuesday, and by yesterday morning all 10 had hatched, adding 10 fluffy little bundles to our school community! Many of the children (and staff) were lucky enough to actually watch some of the chicks hatching – a fantastic experience for all! The chicks are growing every day and will be with us for the next week or so, so the children will be able to observe how quickly they change and grow.
There has been lots of sport going on in school, including PE with Andy, sports with Caine and cricket with Cricket Chris – the children have demonstrated good sportsmanship and are working hard to develop their skills.
After-school clubs started this week and were very well-attended. There were fantastic watercolour paintings of skylines taken home yesterday, showing that we have some budding artists!
On 8th May, we will be celebrating the 80th Anniversary of VE Day with our local community, joining them at the Community Centre when the VE 80 flag is raised and listen to the Town Crier’s Proclamation. The children will be making some posters which will then be used as placemats for the fish and chip supper in the evening. They also see their place mats set out in the morning when they are enjoying juice and biscuits with the community. Following on from this, we will be having a World War II day in school. The children will be learning about key topics about WWII, including the Home Front, children in the war, women’s roles in the war and food and cooking. Children and staff are invited to dress up as a child from this time, or wear army clothes, or a uniform such as Brownies/Beavers/Cubs. If your child does not wish to do this, they should wear school uniform. Mr Clarke has been teaching the children some special VE Day songs that we can sing together to celebrate such a momentous day!
Our Year 6 children will be taking their SATs during the week beginning Monday 12th May. Details will be sent directly to parents of our year 6 children.
